Random MMOness

Seeing as I’m now using the better computer at home, and am finally really on holiday, I thought it’d be a great time to try out a few old and new (to me) MMOs, for a couple of days.
Starting with the free ones, or ones where I can get free trials, in case I spot something I like there before signing up for a single month of whatever pay-to-play MMOs I have lying around.

Ragnarok Online: Hmm… very good graphics, still, at least for players. Sprites don’t age even half as badly as 3D graphics can and do.
However, starting areas are very empty. At least, Prontera’s general region is. Soloing as an Acolyte is also pretty difficult, given you end up doing pretty awful damage if you’re built for casting.
Lasted: 2 days?

FFXI: Okay, so much for sticking to free stuff first.
I didn’t even get started on this one, however, due to the pain of trying to reinstall it after half a year not touching it, finding your registration codes don’t work, and after an hour’s searching finding no way to deal with this save buying another copy. I’m not doing that, so FFXI just isn’t getting played.
Lasted: however long it took to install.

FiestaOnline: This is the one I’m currently playing. It’s another in the batch of ‘cute, cel-shaded anime-style graphics’ MMOs currently out there, like Dream of Mirror Online. It’s… okay. Easy to play.
Slightly few options for character customisation at the beginning – hair colour (for Clerics, at least) is limited to two shades of blue, or purple. There’s only one face, and three hair styles. Like most MMOs, though, at least your armour appears on your avatar.
Lasted: 1 hour and counting.
